How to maintain the product?

Remove dirt and dust with a vacuum with a soft brush attachment. To clean this product, use a tile sponge or cotton cloth, moistened with a mixture of mild liquid washing detergent and water. Do not use cleaning solutions containing bleach, ammonia, chlorine or chemicals that are likely to result in discoloration.

General Questions

What is the product made from?

The standard interior product is a wet pour cast of an industrial gypsum cement with light weight aggregate. The product components have a zero-flame spread and zero-smoke contribution rating.

Color?

The Product is white when fully cured. It takes between 30 and 60 days to come to color. The water in the product makes it look a whiteish gray until it completely cures. The time it takes is based on temperature and humidity.

Can the product be painted or stained?

The product can be painted before the full cure, a few days after installation. The product can be stained. It is difficult to get even penetration due to the variations of density in the product. The product does not react to concrete acid stains, so the only lightly colored product and stain the grout used.

What sizes are available?

The surrounds are done in the two most popular sizes. A surround for 36" to 38" opening which we refer to as 36' and for a 42' to 44" opening which we refer to as a 42". Surrounds sometimes can be modified to fit smaller or larger firebox openings depending on style. With photos of the firebox and a measurement sheet completed, we will be able to let you know if the surround can be modified to work.

Who installs the product?

In the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex, Houston area and San Antonio areas, Fyre Stone Inc. will use its installers and provide a turn-key price for new construction and remolding contractors. It can be installed by to others like a mason or tile professional with training in the install process.

Can surrounds be repaired or parts replaced?

Yes, small chips may be required with a five or twenty-minute quick set dry wall compound. It will dry close to product color. Then the patch can be sanded and textured to match the part. Sometimes individual parts may be replaced with surround still affixed to the wall but may require removing other parts. Hearths are pretty easily replaced.

Grouts cracks and separation from wall, is surround coming loose?

Home tend to settle and walls flex over time, sometimes the grout or caulk used to cover the void where the surround meets the wall or firebox cracks. The surrounds installed by Fyre-Stone, Inc. are mechanically fastened to the studs in the wall, as well as the adhesive is applied to the back of part where it meets the wall board.
